Injection Molding FAQ
What buyers ask before placing a molding order — cost, MOQ, materials and volume.
What do you need to quote a custom injection molding project?
For an accurate quote, send a STEP or other 3D CAD file, a dimensioned 2D drawing, resin and color requirements, annual volume, order quantity, critical tolerances and any assembly or inspection needs. If the material or tooling strategy is not final, include the part’s application and performance requirements — we will review the design and identify the assumptions needed for pricing.
What drives the cost of an injection molded part?
Cost has two parts: the one-time mold investment and the recurring part price. The recurring price is driven by part size and geometry, cavity count, resin, part weight, cycle time, tolerance, surface finish and annual volume. We evaluate tooling and unit cost together so the proposal matches your product life instead of optimizing only the lowest upfront price.
What is your minimum order quantity for injection molded parts?
MOQ is project-specific. It depends on resin purchasing quantities, color, machine setup, cycle time, secondary operations and whether a mold already exists. We run everything from small-batch validation to automated mass production on presses from 50T to 1600T — send your first-order quantity and annual forecast and we will quote suitable volume breaks rather than forcing one standard MOQ across every project.
Can you help improve my plastic part design before tooling?
Yes. Our DFM review covers wall thickness, draft, ribs and bosses, undercuts, tolerances, parting lines, gates, runners, ejection, shrinkage and assembly fit, with moldflow simulation added when the geometry or performance risk justifies it. Resolving these issues before mold manufacturing reduces tool revisions, cosmetic defects and production delays.
Do you offer overmolding, insert molding and 2K injection molding?
Yes. Our molding shop runs multi-cavity, two-shot (2K), over-molding and water/gas-assisted (WIT & GIT) processes, with shot weights from 0.1 g to 12,000 g. The right process depends on the materials, bonding or sealing requirements, insert geometry, volume and cosmetic standard — share your CAD files and functional requirements and our engineers will recommend the most practical option.
How do you keep precision injection molding consistent at volume?
We use scientific molding process control with every parameter monitored, plus CPK reporting on critical dimensions, CMM measurement and CCD visual inspection against AQL standards. Every batch ships with a COA, and the molding shop runs 24/6 with full traceability from resin lot to finished box.
Can you support both pilot runs and high-volume production?
Yes. We begin with prototype or small-batch validation and scale into automated production once the part, mold, material and process are approved. For higher volumes we evaluate cavity count, cycle time, machine tonnage, automation, inspection and material supply to protect unit cost — include your launch quantity and 12–24 month forecast so the tooling and production plan can be sized for the expected ramp.
